We interrupt this regularly scheduled blog to introduce the newest character to the Life World Chronicles. Introducing Ereshkigal, a powerful Marauder out to deal death and destruction to her all her foes.

An excerpt from The Evidence of Things Unseen, book two of the Life World Chronicles

Ereshkigal was sharpening her blade, preparing herself for battle.  The act of sharpening was a microcosm of the larger battle soon to come. Konton-Ran had allowed the so-called  Bereshith and the fallen queen to escape. The plan was to follow them back to Elysium and destroy them once and for all, but Ereshkigal cared not for Konton_Ran, Nergal, or their high-laid plans.

Her smoldering mind reflected on the path that had led her to this point in time and space. The Animus had been coldly calculating and cruelly efficient in its conversion of the Seraphi into Marauders, but Konton-Ran had wanted, needed, something more.

Nooetopia had been rapidly rebuilding under the guidance of its redoubtable queen, and its fierce protectors the Valkyrie, were training and building its ranks despite the seeming peace now taking place on Life World. Despite this seeming peace, they wanted to be prepared for whatever came next, and they were right to do so. Konton-Ran struck swiftly, terribly, and unexpectedly. He decimated the Valkyrie warriors taking many captive, including Nooetopia’s proud and

 haughty queen.

Many captive Valkyries underwent the arcane conversion process into Marauders; few survived it. Tougher than most, the Valkyrie who was to become Ereshkigal had been one of the handful of survivors.

Mostly, the Animus had utilized the Seraphi to build its ranks of Marauders. Even once Konton-Ran rose to power, Ereshkigal had seen piles of wings that had been shorn from the bodies of the victims.

Her own conversion consisted mostly of the psychological, mind-breaking techniques designed to render its subject completely malleable to the will of another. This often resulted in the near complete eradication of the former persona and all its memories; a pure tabula rasa on which Konton-Ran could impose his will. Finally, there were the chemical baths, an alchemical concoction designed to toughen and strengthen the body, changing body composition and increasing the subject's durability. Madness was often an unfortunate side effect. Even before her conversion, she had been somewhat-acerbic. But now, she was near psychotic. She had two moods now; angry and explosive. She didn’t care about Konton-Ran’s goals, Bereshiths, messiahs, or even the fate of Life World itself. Now, her entire raison d’etre was to bring pain to her foes. Anything else was treated as an inconvenience.

She stopped to examine the edge of her blade with a sardonic grin of satisfaction.

“Perfection”, she snarled.
