Historically, Black artists have frequently encountered difficulties in being showcased in galleries, museums, and similar venues.

But not all art is interested in offering that kind of reassurance. Some art does the opposite. Instead of calming us down, it pokes us in the ribs. Sometimes it even grabs us by the collar and says, Look at this. This is art that confronts.

There is a particular kind of art we seek out when things feel off—not disastrous, necessarily, just…off. The kind of art you don’t have to argue with. Art that doesn’t ask you to unpack your beliefs, confront your biases, or explain why you feel vaguely uneasy while looking at it. It simply says, It’s okay. Sit down. This is art that comforts.

Before you ask, “Isn’t this supposed to be an art blog”, it’s already been established in my last post that writing can be considered an art form. And to be honest, writing on this blog has been therapy for me. Not the kind involving a couch, a clipboard, and someone nodding thoughtfully while charging by the hour. (Though I am not opposed to professionals. I simply discovered that the blank page is both cheaper and less inclined to interrupt.)

Had he once been a seraph, as so many other Marauders had been? He could not remember, nor would he now care if he did. Even the name he had taken on after his conversion to Marauder was lost to him. He had taken on a new name for himself, a name that befitted his manner and station. A derivation of the Japanese word for chaos, Life World knew him now by this name only: Konton-Ran.

Benjamin finally got his first look at the Animus. He felt an instinctive shiver of fear and loathing run down his spine as he gazed at the creature. Oddly enough, he felt as though he should know this…thing…as it sat there on the raised dais before him, as if there was some sense of recognition concerning this creature, even though Benjamin knew that he had never seen anything like the Animus in this world or any other.

Ereshkigal was sharpening her blade, preparing herself for battle.  The act of sharpening was a microcosm of the larger battle soon to come. Bad-Doramu had allowed the so-called  Bereshith and the fallen queen to escape. The plan was to follow them back to Elysium and destroy them once and for all, but Ereshkigal cared not for Bad-Doramu, Nergal, or their high-laid plans.

As we approach the beginning of a new year, I, like many others, am prompted to look back on the experiences of 2025.
